Pay no attention to the date, this isn't my first one ;0)
Do you keep a prayer journal?
I'm not talking about one of those fancy, labelled, tabbed, guide me through my prayers, journal.
I'm talking about a straight line conversation with God.
Don't get me wrong, I have the fancy, labelled, tabbed, guide me through my prayers, journal too, but right now, I am talking about a book that you carry around with you, to write quick prayer requests, notes to your Father, heartfelt pleas for anyone and everyone that crosses your mind.
It gets pulled out during prayer requests at Sunday School and during church services, and stays ready on my nightstand when I am at home.
If you have ever requested prayers from me your name is in that book.
My boss saw me writing in mine one day, (not knowing what it was) and asked me if I was writing about her. She was caught off guard when I said "yes".
Don't worry, I didn't let her sit there long before I explained it was my prayer journal, not an intelligence gathering journal. LOL.
It doesn't matter what kind of notebook you use, nor what kind of pen. It doesn't matter what your handwriting looks like or whether or not you have pretty pictures dispersed through out it's pages. It's private and intentional.
Mine is full of requests and praise, recognition of answered prayers and heartfelt pleas for desperate situations.
I have been keeping one of these since I started really studying the bible. I begin my day by putting the date at the beginning and then I just keep it beside me, open and ready to add to all day long.
Don't ask me when prayer became such an important part of my walk with God, I mean more than just a consistent prayer life, but to me it feels like the most important thing I can do for someone, even those who don't believe. Maybe especially for those who don't believe.
My prayer journal has become almost as important (I said almost) to me as making sure I don't leave the house without my bible.
You should get one, carry it around and write in it, when you say to someone "I'm praying for you" write it in there, as soon as you possibly can. It doesn't have to be a three page prayer, it can be a simple "Father I lift.......up to you today. Just be with them" (there are lots of those in mine)
Some of mine are written so fast, even I have to think hard about what in the world I wrote. But He knows, so I don't stress too much about how awful it looks. Besides, it's a conversation with the One who knows your heart from the inside, even if it is never looked at again, He knows what you meant.
I think writing in this book may have been the catalyst to how important I think prayer really is because I have seen so many prayers answered.
You should get one, write in it and pray over it.
It will make a difference to someone, somewhere, whether you ever see the results or not.
